Vladimir Putin announced today at a press conference in Moscow, that the leader of the Chechen resistance, Doku Umarov, had been launched into space. "We are very pleased with the way this operation went", the head of state declared. "We were able to keep this launch a surprise for everyone. Including Mr Umarov", the russian president said.
It is the first time that a non-astronaut is chosen for a manned mission into space.
"We wanted to honor the courage and endurance of the great Chechen nation. We hope this gesture will contribute to a better understanding among Chechens and russians".
Vladimir Putin refused to go into details about the specifics of the mission. "We dont know when Mr Umarov is coming back", he told the press. "Doku is a strong leader. He will find a way to make it back. With or without oxygen".
